Smart Strategies for Kitchen Redos

Smart Strategies for Kitchen Redos

Remodeling your kitchen can be an exciting experience, but it's also quite a big project. To ensure the end result is a kitchen of your dreams (and not something out of a nightmare), follow these smart strategies for remodeling a kitchen.

Plan Ahead

Much like you shouldn't start studying the night before a test, you shouldn't start planning your kitchen remodel at the last minute, either. Start planning a few months in advance so that you have time to fully research your options and talk to several different building companies.

Think in Terms of a Triangle

Experts suggest that the most efficient kitchens have the stove, refrigerator and sink arranged in a triangle. This layout makes it easier to navigate from one element to another while cooking. Keep the triangle in mind when planning your kitchen layout.

Allow for Walking Space

This is another thing to consider when planning your new kitchen layout. Make sure there's a clear pathway for people to walk through the kitchen, and plan the placement of items like tables, counters and cabinets based on this pattern. You don't want to have to squeeze behind the table every time you walk through to the next room!

Make Sure Your Fixtures Match Your Appliances

If you have stainless steel appliances, you don't want a brass faucet. Similarly, white cabinet handles may look a bit strange with black appliances. Choose a finish, and then use the same one for your appliances, fixtures, and all cabinet hardware. This helps create a cohesive look.

Focus on Lighting

The best kitchen designs feature task lighting as well as an overhead fixture. Under-cabinet lights, pendant lights above a kitchen island, and dome lights above the sink all make it easier to see what you're doing. Plus, they add ambiance to your space.

Choose Quality over Quantity

It's better to leave out a few non-essential components than to skimp and buy low-end versions of everything. For example, it's okay to do without a built-in automatic pasta maker if it means you can buy a better-made fridge. Make sure there's space for durable essentials in your budget before you start adding in the extras.
