5 Weird Ways to Beat the Summer Heat

5 Weird Ways to Beat the Summer Heat

While warm weather gives you a chance to enjoy the great outdoors in the summer, there are always at least a few days when the temperature skyrockets and the heat can only be described as sweltering. Staying cool is essential, but there are more ways to stay cool than just cranking up the air conditioning. Here are some more unique tactics for cooling off.

Place a Bowl of Ice in Front of a Fan

This idea works well if you just want to cool off one room and don't want to turn on the A/C. Fill a big bowl with ice and set it in front of the fan. You'll feel the cool breeze coming toward you. Refill the ice bowl periodically as the ice melts.

Spray Yourself

Walking around with a spray bottle of water certainly sounds a bit strange, but don't knock it until you try it! Whenever you start to feel hot, give yourself a spritz. As the water evaporates off of your skin, you'll start to feel cooler.

Put Your Sheets in the Freezer

If you're having trouble cooling off enough to sleep comfortably at night, take the sheets off your bed, put them in a resealable bag, and put the bag in the freezer for about 15 minutes. Put the sheets back on your bed, and climb in immediately for instant refreshment.

Have a Water Fight with Sponges

Water balloons can be messy, but having a water war with sponges makes for an easy cleanup and a great opportunity to cool off. Fill buckets with chilly water, and dip in plenty of sponges. Toss them at each other, and see if you can dodge the splashes. This might sound like a kids' game, but adults can really get into it, too!

Give Your Feet a Peppermint Soak

If you cool your feet off, the rest of your body will feel a lot cooler, too. Peppermint essential oil give your skin a lasting cooling sensation. Dip your feet into a tub of cool water to which you've added a few drops of peppermint oil, and let them soak for about 15 minutes. The cooling effects will last long after the soak!
